Henson & Efron, P.A. Secures Seven Figure Tax Refund for Client Using Gitlitz Theory

June 12, 2005, Minneapolis, MN – Henson & Efron, P.A. successfully represented a client in a federal income tax refund case. Relying on the recent United States Supreme Court decision in Gitlitz v. Commissioner, 531 U.S. 206 (2001), the client claimed an additional loss by reason of the tax-free discharge of related-party debt income. The IRS denied the refund claim and the client sued in Minnesota federal district court. The case was settled before trial for a seven figure refund (federal and state).
